It is a statewide system of higher education that consists of three regional campuses and eleven extended sites. The University is governed by an 11-member board of regents, which is appointed by the governor. The chief executive officer of the university system is President Mark Hamilton. Chancellors head each of the three major administrative units: the University of Alaska Fairbanks (Fairbanks campus and five branch campuses), the University of Alaska Anchorage (Anchorage campus, three branch campuses, and one community college), and the University of Alaska Southeast (Juneau campus and two branch campuses).
