San Jose/Evergreen Community College District

The San Jose/Evergreen Community College District operates by authority of its Board of Trustees and the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges. Today, the San Jose/Evergreen Community College District serves more than half a million residents within its 303 square mile boundaries. The District is comprised of two colleges: San José City College and Evergreen Valley College, which are fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Evergreen Valley College currently enrolls approximately 9,950 day and evening students each semester. San José's enrollment is approximately 9,500. The student bodies are diverse, reflecting the changing demography of California's major racial/ethnic groups. The ethnic breakdown of District students is:

• 46% Asian, Filipino, and Pacific Islander
• 26% Hispanic
• 16% Caucasian
• 6% African American
• 6% Other

Diversity is further reflected by comprehensive programs addressing the needs of the following student populations: disabled, re-entry, socio-economically disadvantaged, and immigrant and international students. Both colleges offer a two-year lower division college program paralleling four-year colleges and universities. For students who plan to pursue a baccalaureate degree, the colleges provide a strong core of general education and major courses required for transfer. Additionally, a variety of one- and two-year technical, occupational and pre-professional courses of study leading to employment is offered, and a program responding to the needs of welfare reform legislation is currently being implemented.

Evergreen Valley College is situated in the foothills of Santa Clara County's lush Evergreen Valley. Its serene campus is nestled amidst orchards in one of San Jose's loveliest residential neighborhoods. San José City College is located in the beautiful Santa Clara Valley, fifty miles south of San Francisco. San Jose is the third largest city in California, with a population of approximately 873,300 and a population of over 1,600,000 in the greater San Jose area. The area is home to Silicon Valley, a major center of the technological revolution. The San Jose/Evergreen Community College District is also in close proximity to major public and private colleges and universities.
