George Fox University

George Fox University is the only evangelical Christian university in the Pacific Northwest classified by U.S. News & World Report as a national university. More than 3,200 students attend classes on the university's campus in Newberg, Ore., and at teaching centers in Portland, Salem, and Redmond Ore., and Boise, Idaho. George Fox offers bachelor's degrees in more than 40 majors, degree-completion programs for working adults, five seminary degrees, and 12 master's and doctoral degrees.

George Fox professors are committed to demonstrating to students how their Christian faith applies to their academic disciplines. The university is one of 100 institutions selected for the John Templeton Foundation Honor Roll for Character-Building Colleges.

More than two-thirds of George Fox traditional undergraduates participate in an international study or service experience before graduating. Through our all-expense Act Six urban leadership scholarships, China Studies Initiative, and aggressive recruitment efforts of employees and students of color, George Fox seeks to become a more racially and ethnically diverse community.

George Fox students and staff volunteer thousands of hours annually in service to community and church. Every fall, the university closes campus for its annual Serve Day and sends nearly 1,500 students, professors, and staff members into the local community to do volunteer service at parks, senior citizen homes, churches, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.

Quaker settlers in the fertile Willamette River Valley founded the university in 1891. Newberg (population 20,000) is ideally located 30 minutes from the urban opportunities of Portland, 60 minutes from the rugged Oregon Coast, and 90 minutes from the slopes of majestic Mt. Hood. Former President Herbert Hoover attended Friend Pacific Academy, the predecessor of George Fox University.
