The University of South Carolina Upstate seeks an experienced Instructional Design & Assistive Technology Specialist to provide instructional and program design, and assistive technology expertise for the development and support of academic courses and specialized educational programs delivered via distance education. The IDAT Specialist is responsible for assisting faculty in the design of curriculum and online instruction, promoting technology-related solutions based on principles of universal design for learning that support equal opportunities to learn; as well as to address and/or remove access barriers in distance education environments. In addition, the IDAT Specialist identifies and supports assistive learning technologies required for distance education environments, develops learning resources, and guides retooling of courses and course segments to electronic delivery methods consistent with best practice.

Position duties and responsibilites:
  • Collaborates with faculty on instructional design issues, creates web pages, and manages online course development, including universal design and review for accessibility
  • Consults with individuals or groups of faculty on optimal design of curriculum and instruction and effective uses of multimedia
  • Manages course projects from inception to completion
  • Develops curriculum guides for courses and/or program components
  • Designs and supervises production of learning resources in variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, and animation technologies to support curriculum offerings
  • Provides design and production assistance to faculty in the development of electronic delivery methods
  • Provides a variety of resource material and development opportunities on instructional design and universal design
  • As technology and software development products advance, explores and make recommendations for multimedia software for use by faculty and others on campus.
  • Participates in University committees, task forces, etc., as appropriate and assists in the strategic design and development of online courses and programs, including policy with regard to accessibility assurance.
Minimum qualifications: Master's degree and 1 year related experience in instructional technology, education, communications, information technology, or curriculum design or related field.

Training and experience with online course delivery and learning management systems, advanced multimedia authoring software and Web site design software (such as HTML, Java, Java Script, the Adobe Creative Suite/Adobe Cloud) preferred.

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
