Assistant Professor of Sociology: Latina/o Studies & Race Ethnic Relations
The Sociology-Anthropology Department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor to begin August, 2011. Candidates should have expertise in Latinas/os Studies, Race/Ethnic Relations, and either Sociological Research Methods or Sociological Theory, and research productivity and potential. Courses taught by the person in this position include Race and Ethnic Relations, Institutional Racism, Comparative Race and Ethnicity, and either Sociological Research Methods or Sociological Theory. We prefer candidates who have a background which prepares them to teach a variety of Sociology courses addressing diversity issues, such as: LGBTQ Studies, Critical Ethnic Studies, African American Studies, and/or Asian American Studies. The department also prefers those whose background and experience prepare them both to provide students with community based learning and to work effectively with diverse student and faculty populations.
Required Qualifications: We require a PhD in Sociology by August 15th, 2011. Consideration will be given to those with both a PhD in Anthropology or another closely related field and a substantial Sociological background. Applicants must have a background which prepares them to teach the courses listed above. Applicants must show evidence of research potential and/or productivity. Candidates should be able to show evidence of teaching success. Candidates should be sensitive to, or have experience in, working with a diverse, multicultural population.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of Wisconsin System provides a liberal benefits package, including participation in a state pension plan.
