CHINESE (Language and Culture): Tenure track position in Chinese, with expertise in Chinese
language, literature, and culture, at the rank of assistant professor. Interest in the pre-modern
period is preferred. Effective August 2011. Ph.D. required. The holder of this position will teach 5
courses per year, including language courses at all levels and courses in literature and culture.
The candidate will also participate in the Asian Studies program, contributing to the Introduction
to Asian Studies course and directing student theses. Native or near-native fluency in both Chinese
and English, and teaching experience in Chinese language and culture at the college level are
required. Whitman College wishes to reinforce its commitment to enhance diversity, broadly defined,
