The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) is the Nation's federal health sciences university and is committed to excellence in military medicine and public health during peace and war. The Department of Medicine, Division of Educational Programs (EDP), USUHS, invites applications for a full-time (tenure-ineligible) Assistant Professor position. The position is located at the Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington.

Duties: The incumbent will be responsible for teaching core USU School of Medicine curriculum to third and fourth year medical students; teach and supervise third year students on the inpatient and outpatient services; serve as a "preceptor" or teaching attending frequently 3-4, 6-week teaching blocks per year. Evaluate, give feedback to, and recommend grades for all students with whom they work. Provide liaison with on-site clerkship director, local command Dept. of Medicine, and faculty. Assist medical staff in faculty development and academic promotion; as directed by supervisor, attend and participate in USU and national meetings relevant to positions; contribute to scholarly publications; serve as primary backup to on-site Clerkship Director, and support the Graduate Medical Education program (Internal Medicine Residency program) at MAMC through supervision of resident trainees in the ambulatory and inpatient care settings. Additionally, approximately half time will be spent in clinical, patient care activities in the Ambulatory setting, contributing to the patient care mission of MAMC.

Qualification Requirements: The incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of an M.D. degree, be board certified in General Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, maintain an active license to practice medicine in a state, and be credentialed for the full range of Internal Medicine practice in a hospital setting. Incumbent must have experience in teaching medical students and/or residents and experience with or interest in educational research. Applicants should have expertise and experience and possess active membership in scholarly societies appropriate to the discipline of internal medicine and the Department of Medicine. Experience in military medicine is desirable but not required. The successful candidate must be academically qualified for a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level in accordance with USUHS academic guidelines.
