Job Summary: The Department of Dance at Denison University, a highly selective liberal arts college, invites applications for a visiting assistant professor appointment beginning Fall 2012. This position is for a year-long sabbatical leave replacement. We seek a colleague who is an excellent teacher. Candidates are expected to have high aptitude and interest in undergraduate teaching and a commitment to the liberal arts.

The ideal candidate will be able to teach courses in Somatics (from any perspective, e.g. BMC, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, etc.), Understanding Dance (an introductory dance survey course), Cultural Studies in Dance History (from any perspective), and a minimum of three other courses from the following:
Laban Movement Analysis, Labanotation/ Reconstruction, Writing for Dance (course in our first year writing program), Women and the Arts (a course cross-listed with Women's Studies), Movement practices courses in any genre including a fundamentals course, and/or setting, creating or reconstructing a choreographic work on students, or a course of your own design that can fit into one of three categories of dance studies: Movement Analysis, Cultural Studies, or Somatics.

Additional responsibilities include attending weekly Staff Meetings and participation in the artistic and scholarly life of the department.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D., or Ph.D ABD (by July 2012) in dance or a closely related field with a strong emphasis in dance preferred or MFA in dance. Teaching experience at the college level.

We seek an individual who can support and develop the integration of theory and practice in art making, research, and in their pedagogy, who can contribute to our senior research program and be a fully engaged member of the dance department.
