Job Description: The Department of Radiation Oncology, Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University seeks a Chief Medical Physicist to join our existing medical physics group at the Associate Professor or Professor level.

The Chief Physicist leads all department and Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center (LJCC) Radiation Oncology Physics services, and assure the highest quality and safety in the delivery of radiation therapy, assuring the accurate delivery of treatment plans, and making certain that all required quality checks and monitors, inspections, maintenance, calibrations and verifications are performed, and assuring compliance with all applicable federal and state, radiation regulations and accreditation/practice standards.

The Chief Physicist leads and supervises members of the physics and dosimetry staff, provides physics support to LJCC clinical trial activities, and takes a lead role in program, facility and technology development. The successful candidate performs the daily duties of a clinical medical physicist as needed and participates in clinical physics research projects with students and staff and medical physics professional activities including continuing education and maintenance of certification. He or she fosters and expands ongoing research and education, including collaborations with the East Carolina University Department of Physics and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Department of Radiation Oncology, and works to increase extramural funding.

Fixed term or tenure track position available.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD Degree; American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physics Certification; 8 years of medical physics experience with at least 3 or more years in a leadership or management position; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong computer skills; leadership ability in a team environment; strong clinical background; experience in Cyberknife and/or Gammaknife.
