This is a full-time, 12-month, unclassified, professional staff position in the University Housing Department at Western Oregon University. The position is annually renewable. University Housing is one of eleven departments within the Division of Student Affairs and houses approximately 1550 students in six residence halls, one apartment complex, and 56 family housing units on campus during the academic year. University Housing also works with various conference groups and summer school students during the summer. Western Oregon University enrolls about 5400 undergraduate and 800 graduate students in an increasingly diverse, bilingual, and rural area in the Willamette Valley.

Anticipated Start Date: July 9, 2012

QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required; a Master's degree in College Student Personnel or a related field is preferred. The qualified candidate must have a minimum of two years professional experience or equivalent education. A minimum of two years experience advising student groups, either at a Para-professional or professional level is required. Previous experience as a professional staff member in a college residential program is desired. Excellent communication and organizational skills and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population are necessary.

The successful candidate for this position will be subject to a Criminal Background check.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Advising
    Advise Residence Hall Association (RHA) Executive Board and General Assembly (GA); meet with RHA Executive Board on a regular basis; advise programming efforts of RHA; serve as campus conference advisor for NACURH-affiliated conferences; meet monthly with the Advising Resident Assistants; support Fall Training for student leaders in University Housing.
  • Programming
    Coordinate weekend programming activities for residence hall students and chair the weekend programs committee; plan and implement large scale weekend programs during the academic year with the help of residence hall staff; coordinate student programming resources.
  • Administrative
    Serve as a member of Senior Staff; assist summer conferences program; assist with annual departmental assessment plan; work with numerous campus committees.
  • Budget
    Monitor RHA and GA budgets; manage weekend programs budget of approximately $25,000.
  • Other duties as assigned.
