This position is no longer an active posting on HigherEdJobsJob Description: The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at East Carolina University is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor specializing in 20th /21st century French literature and culture to begin August 13, 2012.
The successful candidate will have a strong research agenda and display a record of scholarship and teaching excellence. The candidate will be expected to support and contribute to program coordination, curriculum development, and the creation of distance education courses in a growing French program. Departmental duties will include advising student organizations and participation in outreach activities. Appropriate service to the university, community, and profession is also expected. Interest in participating in multidisciplinary programs such as Film Studies is considered a plus.
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures has 34 full-time faculty members. It offers BS degrees in French, German and Hispanic Studies Education; courses of study in Japanese and Italian; and BA degrees in French, German, Hispanic Studies, Multidisciplinary Studies:Classics, and Multidisciplinary Studies:Russian Studies. Faculty members teach also in a wide range of related interdisciplinary programs across the university. The Department offers a collegial and supportive work environment for faculty with varied research interests, backgrounds, and areas of specialization. Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. from an appropriately accredited institution required. Native or near native proficiency in French and English is expected.
Candidates must have the doctorate in hand by August of 2012.
