The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine, Department of Medicine (MED) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor (non-tenure/tenure track) position.
The Department of Medicine is responsible for fostering and assessing the skills, knowledge, and professionalism of students necessary for success in graduate medical education and military medical practice; maintains an academic environment strongly supporting productive basic science and clinical research endeavors; fosters academic excellence through effective faculty development programs, periodic faculty review, and strong support for academic advancement; demonstrates, through a skilled faculty, the role model of a compassionate, dedicated caregiver and teacher as well as an innovative, ethical clinician-scientist; supports military readiness with in-depth expertise on infectious diseases, toxic exposures, wellness measures, and other internal medicine concerns of particular operational significance; fosters academic excellence in professional training throughout military graduate medical education; and provides public presentations supporting graduate and continuing medical education on internal medicine and related topics.
Duties: The incumbent will serve as an Assistant or Associate Professor in MED and, as such, will be responsible for teaching, research and administrative assignments. He/she will supervise groups of students (e.g., medical students, interns, residents and post-doctoral graduate assistants) at the tutorial level in the laboratory; teach new research techniques including the use of appropriate instruments and equipment and statistical and analytical procedures; prepare materials for presentation, provide daily supervision, and review of student performance and serve as advisor to pre-doctoral and post-doctoral assistants in guiding their training programs.
The successful candidate will also work in collaboration with existing investigators to pursue basic and clinical research in the fields of immunology, infectious diseases or hematology. Additional duties include, participating in investigational, research and developmental projects, directing experimental activities, evaluating data, drawing conclusions, and publishing results. The incumbent will serve as research advisor to graduate students in field of expertise, assists in planning programs, setting objectives, evaluating progress, etc., and preparing and presenting lectures in area of major expertise.
Qualification Requirements: The incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of a Ph.D. degree and is required to have and manage his/her own extramural research program. The successful candidate must also have excellent written and verbal communications skills, substantial experience in medical school teaching, educational or research administration, personnel management, research and development expertise and experience as reflected by a significant number of scientific publications in critically reviewed scientific journals, as appropriate to his/her research. The incumbent must also possess active membership in scholarly societies appropriate to the Department of Medicine. Experience with medical/scientific applications of electronic data processing is required. The successful candidate must be academically qualified for a faculty appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor level in accordance with USUHS academic policies.

The position sensitivity level is designated as non-critical sensitive and does not require a secret clearance. The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain the non-critical sensitivity level. Nominees for this position shall be required to successfully complete an Access National Agency Check (ANACI).
