Brief Description:

The University Controller's fundamental purpose is to ensure that University fiscal practices comply with relevant federal, state and local rules and regulations, and with the University's online Policies and Procedures Manual.

Detailed Description:
The University Controller reports directly to the SEVP & CFO of the University. The Controller will work closely with the Audit, Finance, and Investment Committees of the Board of Trustees. The University Controller's fundamental purpose is to ensure that University fiscal practices comply with relevant federal, state and local rules and regulations, and with the University's online Policies and Procedures Manual. The Controller directs and coordinates the University's financial and accounting affairs in accordance with GAAP. They manage the University's accounting functions to support the strategic mission of the University. The University's Purchasing and Bursar functions report to this position. The University Controller is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the accounting records, manages the annual external audit, recommends and maintains appropriate fiscal policies and internal controls, and oversees the University's financial accounting system.

Job Requirements:

While no one person will embody all of them, the successful candidate will bring many of the following qualifications and attributes:
  • Experience in Multi Campus and Foreign Entities. Embry-Riddle is organized into three campuses. Residential campuses in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Prescott, Arizona, provide education in a traditional setting, while the Worldwide Campus provides instruction to off-campus students through more than 130 centers in the United States and Europe and through online learning. Combined annual enrollment for all campuses is more than 34,000.
  • Knowledge of Oracle technology. The ideal candidate will have experience in Oracle Financials, Oracle Campus Solutions and Oracle Discoverer Reporting.
  • Significant, successful experience and knowledge in financial standards. The ideal candidate must have excellent analytical skills and an in depth knowledge of GAAP/FASB accounting rules, tax regulations and internal controls. They should also have a working knowledge of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Interpersonal effectiveness. Evidence of energy, drive, and initiative, in combination with a track record of building and maintaining strong, collaborative, trusting relationships, will enhance a candidacy. The ideal candidate will be a person whose personal strengths will contribute to the building of a strong, unified team. The new University Controller will need to work effectively and comfortably with persons at all levels both within and outside ERAU to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Management effectiveness. The successful candidate will be a proven, decisive, highly skilled manager, open in management style, respectful of alternative points of view, and comfortable in a collegial environment. A seasoned, attentive manager will mentor staff and build and lead highly performing teams.
  • Exceptional communication skills. An ability to convey and help shape the Embry-Riddle vision, priorities and value proposition persuasively to a variety of internal and external constituencies, including prospective students and their families, senior administrators, faculty, alumni, and donors is essential. The new Controller must have an effective public presence and must be comfortable and skillful as a spokesperson.
Certified Public Accountant licensed in the state of Florida with a Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required. An advanced degree is preferred.
