The Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Genetics (APG), at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, invites applications for a full-time Research Associate position. The department has strong commitments to medical education and biomedical research and is located in an interactive scientific environment adjacent to the National Institutes of Health and National Library of Medicine. Outstanding core facilities are available to support medical education and biomedical research in cell biology, genomics and proteomics.
Duties: The incumbent will participate in cellular and molecular research projects, investigating aspects of inflammation following traumatic brain and spinal cord injury in rodent models. He/she will assist the principal investigator in conducting experiments, maintenance of knockout colonies including genotyping, performance of behavioral testing, performance of standard immunohistochemistry and Western blotting, and stereologic quantitation of histological samples. The incumbent will maintain detailed documentation of research projects and prepare data for presentation at scientific meetings or for publication in scientific journals.
Qualification Requirements: The incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of a Master's degree in microbiology, neuroscience, cell biology or related field. This level of expertise and knowledge may also be evidenced by possession of a Bachelor's degree in the area of science required by the position, combined with a minimum of two years of specialized experience in functional testing and histological techniques.
