Position Overview and Opportunity

The Vice President of Instruction serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the institution and reports directly to the President. This position provides leadership for all academic programs in support of Red Rocks Community
College's mission and vision. The Vice President of Instruction is responsible for creating and sustaining the College's Academic Master Plan by advocating for and collaborating with faculty, providing visionary leadership, supporting innovation, initiating change management and strategic planning efforts, and ensuring the overall quality of instruction at the college. The Vice President of Instruction will be a creative and dynamic individual who is team-oriented with the ability to build consensus. The Vice President will lead the Instructional Services Division in developing practices and procedures, including the establishment of an effective program review process.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership and supervision for full-time faculty, as well as professional technical, classified, and instructional staff. Evaluate and assign faculty, classified, and professional technical staff in accordance with respective employee performance plans. Develop divisional and departmental leadership teams. Create, monitor and/or participate in internal and external committee work that promotes the goals of the division and instruction. Verify and monitor the employee contract approval process, including part-time contracts and fulltime overloads. Formulate and implement strategies for instructional faculty and staff, instructional departments and other campus constituencies. Develop and administer instructional budgets in collaboration with the instructional deans, faculty, and staff. Justify and effectively manage all appropriate operating budget categories including acquisition, maintenance, and inventory of capital. Initiate and coordinate instructional teams and external groups to develop and implement programs and curricula. Represent College at community and national events, in meetings with other institutions, and during the accreditation process. Work closely with the Vice President of Student Services on college-wide recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives. Co-chair the Enrollment Management Team, providing leadership for proactive and strategic enrollment planning. Serve as arbiter for student complaints, consider student requests, and work with faculty to address and resolve issues as they arise. Understand and implement shared governance and collaborative decision-making processes across division/department lines. Utilize scholarship and leadership skills in promoting educational innovation and improvement. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for this position are a master's degree with five years of experience, which will include the following: 1) A minimum of 3 years administrative leadership in a higher education institution or related
environment, 2) Demonstrated experience in educational program and/or curriculum design and development, 3)Demonstrated budget management and oversight experience, and 4) A minimum of two years full- or part-time teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications for this position are a PhD, EdD, or other terminal degree in an academic field with a demonstrated record of recent and comprehensive scholarship. Demonstrated experience utilizing and promoting
alternative delivery methods and instructional techniques. Community College experience. Experience working with career and technical education programs. Grant administration experience. Experience building partnerships
with 4-year institutions, as well as business, industry, and community partners. Experience working with higher education accreditation bodies.

Required Competencies for this position are strong decision-making and conflict management skills, the ability to serve as an agent of change, and the ability to demonstrate integrity in a highly visible position. The Vice President of Instruction must also possess the ability to utilize computer technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports and communicate with others; the ability to deal effectively with individuals and teams from diverse backgrounds; and the ability to provide quality customer service.
