GENERAL DESCRIPTION
To facilitate and enhance a positive institutional experience for alumni and students, and increase alumni engagement and involvement with the law school, the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations for IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law will plan and implement the production of Institutional Advancement (Development and Alumni Relations) electronic communications, social media, departmental Web pages, and the Alumni Online Community. Reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations, the Assistant Director will also serve as the liaison between the Alumni Association and student organizations and coordinate student/alumni events, as well as staff and assist Alumni Association events in terms of registration and volunteer management. Other responsibilities include the management of all class notes and alumni in the news components of the Alumni Magazine and Web site, serving the critical position as point of contact for the alumni office, and being responsible for updating alumni information on a daily basis.

Key Responsibility 1
Oversee the design and management of the Alumni and Institutional Advancement Web pages, including updating content, creating pages from templates, updating the law school's E-calendar, creating copy, and acting as the site's administrator. In addition, manage the Alumni Online Community, including the online events registration module and online payment systems.

Key Responsibility 2
Serve as a liaison between student organizations and the Alumni Association, and coordinate student/alumni events. Staff and assist Alumni Association events, including registration and volunteer management.

Key Responsibility 3
Support the planning, production and implementation of alumni and development communications outreach, including the preparation, writing and editing of materials such as invitations, monthly e-newsletters, e-blasts and other correspondence. Oversee details regarding copy, layout production and mailing.

Key Responsibility 4
Manage the Class Notes and Alumni in the News components of the Alumni Magazine and Web site, including management of alumni volunteer class correspondents and correspondence between the Dean's office and alumni.

Key Responsibility 5
Manage the Alumni Association social media accounts including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Create content, respond to alumni posts, and manage membership.

Key Responsibility 6
Research new alumni information update alumni database daily. Serve as point of contact for the alumni office in terms of answering phone calls, emails and alumni requests, and assists in office management.

Communications:
Written, verbal, electronic communications with IIT and Institutional Advancement teams, alumni, service providers, staff, faculty and students.

Customer Service:
Written, verbal, electronic communications with IIT and Institutional Advancement teams, alumni, service providers, staff, faculty and students.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree is required; At least one year of academic background and/or non-profit is desirable; strong writing and editing skills are necessary, as well as Web site management and electronic communication experience. Excellent customer service skills, strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to think creatively are a must, as is the ability to manage multiple responsibilities successfully, meet deadlines and exercise independent judgment. Should be a self-starter and motivated individual.

Preferred Skills:
Must be comfortable communicating with individuals of diverse backgrounds by email, phone and in person.

Requirements:
  • Knowledge of Windows, including MS Office Suite and network-based environments
  • An excellent working knowledge of HTML, especially using Dreamweaver
  • Working understanding of database software (experience with Raiser's Edge is a plus. Knowledge of Banner is useful but not required.)
  • Fundamental photo editing skills, including familiarity with graphics software such as Fireworks or Photoshop
  • Ability to use a point and shoot digital camera
Bonuses:
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite and Macromedia products
  • Basic understanding of CSS and Javascript
  • Experience with Content Management Systems
  • Volunteer management and/or event planning experience
  • Knowledge of social media, particularly management of LinkedIn groups, Facebook fan pages, and organizational Twitter accounts
  • Experience working with graphic designers is helpful, as well as basic design skills for editing web and email templates
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues internally and across disciplines in Institutional Advancement and interdepartmentally throughout the University.
