The Virginia Community College System invites applications and nominations for the presidency of Danville Community College (DCC). Located in south-central Virginia along the North Carolina border, Danville boasts historical landmarks, recreational opportunities and a beautiful rolling countryside. Places Rated Almanac magazine ranked Danville the 61st most affordable place to live in the United States. Danville is also among the top 25 World Class Communities, recognized by Industry Week Magazine.
Danville Community College is one of 23 community colleges in Virginia and was founded in 1966 as a result of the merger of its predecessor institutions - the Danville Branch of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Danville Technical Institute. The College's service region includes the City of Danville, along with Pittsylvania and Halifax counties. The College serves a total population of 142,802. Additionally, it is the largest provider of educational opportunities in the service region.
In 2011-2012, the College's unduplicated headcount was 6,741 students with an annualized FTE of 2,783. Approximately 23 percent of all 2012 area high school graduates attended DCC in the fall. Also, in fall 2012, DCC offered 92 programs of study leading to the associate degree, diploma, certificate or career studies certificate. In the college-university transfer curricula, students can earn an associate degree in transfer programs, such as Business Administration, Engineering, Liberal Arts and Science.
With the retirement of President Carlyle Ramsey, after more than two decades of exemplary service, Danville Community College seeks an energetic and accomplished leader who would be committed to the region, passionate and positive about the future, and eager to embrace the community as a leader, volunteer and advocate. The ideal candidate would be visible in all segments of the community working to build and further partnerships with local and regional organizations in support of advancing education, workforce development, and economic development. He or she should possess excellent fund-raising skills and build upon and increase the college's success in securing external funding from national foundations, the state assembly, the federal government, and other entities. He or she should have a vision to consider future expansion of class offerings, degrees, and distance learning coursework. Additionally, the next president will support the development of faculty and staff and promote a positive, high performance campus climate.
Qualifications for President:
Qualified candidates will have an earned doctorate and demonstrated successful senior executive experience at the highest levels. Previous experience must include significant responsibility for programs, budgets, personnel, facilities and other appropriate administrative duties. An understanding of the mission and goals of a comprehensive community college in the 21st Century and an appreciation for rural colleges are essential characteristics along with a clear commitment to instruction, student success, and community involvement. The candidate should have proven leadership abilities, excellent communications skills, as well as a strong student-centered perspective. The candidate must also have a broad vision for the College together with the skills and energy for implementation in addition to the demonstrated ability to work with business, industry, government and the community at large.
The salary range is $145,501 - $212,496. The search will remain open until the position is filled.
