The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), Daniel K. Inouye Graduate School of Nursing (GSN) invites applications for an Assistant Professor (non-tenure/non-tenure track) position. The Daniel K. Inouye Graduate School of Nursing (GSN) is charged to educate students as advanced practice nurses, scientists and scholars for service as future leaders in military operational environments, federal health systems and university settings. In a dynamic educational environment, the GSN prepares graduate nursing students to provide care, teach and conduct research for the uniformed services and federal health care system during peace, disasters, war and other contingencies.
The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited GSN offers Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Anesthesia, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, program options leading to the Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree; and the Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist Perioperative Specialty leading to the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. The Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science (PhD) program has a research-intensive focus within the areas of bio-behavioral health and illness, health services research, and ethics, policy and leadership. Located within the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), the school enjoys interdisciplinary relationships with medical, dental, public health and other health related professions.
Duties: The incumbent will serve as an Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Nursing (GSN), Family Nurse Practitioner Department and will be responsible for teaching, actively pursuing an area of scholarship, providing services to the School, the University and their professional discipline and accomplishing administrative assignments upon request. As a GSN faculty member, the incumbent is expected to show respect for diversity and fairness and comply with published GSN guiding principles.
The successful candidate will assist in the transition of master's level curriculum to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), participate in the planning of scholarship requirements for the DNP and teach DNP and Master level curricula. This faculty member will use the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) defined Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice to implement the curriculum and support one or more of the following curriculum content areas: Population Health, Health Care Informatics, Organization and Systems Leadership, Health Economics, and Translation of Evidence to Practice. In addition, the faculty member will insure compliance with the educational standards and guidelines published by accrediting bodies for graduate nursing education.
Additional responsibilities include mentoring students in completing scholarly activities, including evidence based projects, capstone portfolios and clinical activities supporting the integration of best evidence into practice; supporting students in evaluating data emerging from evidence based interventions, and drawing conclusions based on findings; assisting students in implementing evidence based process improvements and disseminating results in peer reviewed publications and/or at national presentations.
Qualification Requirements: The incumbent must bring to this position an earned doctorate in nursing or a related health specialty field, hold a current nursing license and have teaching expertise in graduate nursing education. Candidates who are certified as nurse practitioners, registered nurse anesthetists, nurse midwifes or clinical nurse specialists are preferred. Candidates with a background in the military or federal health care systems are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must have demonstrated effective leadership and the potential for scholarly achievement; set standards of excellence and leadership in professional service; and have strong interpersonal skills and commitment to graduate education and continued professional development of self and others, as well as be actively engaged in an area of scholarship consistent with the mission of the GSN/University. The successful candidate must be academically qualified for a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level in accordance with USUHS/GSN academic policies.

The position sensitivity level is designated as non-critical sensitive and does not require a secret clearance. The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain the non-critical sensitivity level.
