Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in reading education in both face-to-face and blended/hybrid online environments, supervising related practicum experiences and graduate student research, conducting an active research agenda, and providing service to the university, community, and profession.

Qualifications for Assistant Professor:
Required
  • Early career
  • Earned doctorate in reading or related literacy area by August 1, 2013 (18 doctoral level credit hrs. in reading or related literacy area)
  • Three years public/private school teaching experience
  • Dedication to excellence in university teaching
  • Commitment to collaboration and the department's mission
  • Ability to conduct and report research with appropriate publications record for point of entry into position
Preferred
  • Successful university teaching experience
  • Commitment to practice based literacy teacher education preparation
  • Commitment to developing collaborative relationships with communities
Qualifications for Associate Professor
Required
  • Earned doctorate in reading or related literacy area (18 doctoral level credit hrs. in reading or related literacy area)
  • Three years public/private school teaching experience
  • Commitment to collaboration and the department's mission
  • Demonstrated excellence in university teaching
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and report research with appropriate publication record for associate level
Preferred
  • Experience chairing doctoral committees
  • Leadership in professional organizations
  • Expertise in practice based literacy teacher education preparation
  • Evidence of superior university teaching
  • History of securing grants and funding for development projects
  • Expertise in developing collaborative relationships with communities
The Department of Reading at Texas Woman's University has nine tenure track faculty, graduate teaching and research assistants, and a pool of highly qualified adjunct instructors. Our department offers doctoral and master's degrees in reading and courses in the undergraduate / graduate teacher education programs. The department offers both face-to-face and blended / hybrid online master's degree programs and is a leader in using a broad variety of technologies. Faculty members are also involved in various service and professional development initiatives with school districts located in several countries, across the USA, Texas, and the Dallas/Fort Worth Area.

Our Mission: Our department is dedicated to developing and empowering exemplary literacy educators who consistently demonstrate the capacity for excellence in teaching, theory, research, inquiry, and leadership. Our faculty is responsive to the complexities of literacy learning in multiple social and cultural contexts and works together to address the changing needs of literacy learners and the global community we serve. A strong component of our department includes our emphasis on advocacy, partnerships with schools, and work in the field.
