The Coordinator of Institutional Assessment is accountable the effective coordination of the University's assessment and program evaluation processes in preparing for specialized accreditations and reviews (SACSCOC, ATS, NCATE, NASW, etc.). The position supports the continuous evaluation and improvement of student learning through consultation with faculty, deans, chairpersons, directors, and various governance groups.
- Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Three years experience in higher education, including strategic planning, student learning outcomes assessment and academic program evaluation.
- Experience in the development and application of assessment and evaluation methods in a collegiate setting.
- Ph.D. or terminal degree in higher education administration, assessment or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Significant experience in regional accreditation requirements and processes.
- Three years successful classroom teaching experience as a faculty member in an institution of higher education.
- Development, application, assessment, and evaluation methods in a collegiate setting.
- Strategic planning as it relates to student learning outcomes assessment, academic program evaluation, and related experiences.
- Regional higher education accreditation.
- Classroom teaching as a faculty member in an institution of higher education.
- Computer skill proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel software.
- Effectively coordinate the implementation of Shaw University's institution-wide academic assessment program as a coordinated process that improves student-learning outcomes.
- Coordinate the planning and implementation of academic assessment goals and objectives.
- Provide direction and advice to faculty, academic administrators, and others involved in the design, development, and evaluation of instructional programs, learning, and academic services.
- Support computer-related functions related to assessment and accountability documentation.
- Participate in policy development and implementation.
- Develop and conduct effective faculty, staff, and administrator training workshops.
- Effectively communicate through the development and composition of complex analysis reports and correspondence, and through related presentations to administrators, faculty, and staff.
- Effectively deal with individuals at all business levels and various situations which require tact, judgment, and integrity.
- Relate to people in a manner as to win confidence, support, and understanding in the purposes, programs, and goals of the University.
- Compose effective and professional correspondence.

- Legally operate an automobile in the State of North Carolina.
- Effectively develop and implement academic assessment program plans and procedures as an effective coordinated process aimed to ensure the various University schools, programs and departments are prepared to meet applicable accountability expectations and regional accreditation requirements.
- Oversee the acquisition and proper administration of appropriate assessment instruments.
- Train proctors in the required procedures for administering assessments.
- Distribute applicable assessment results to student, faculty, staff, and administrators in a timely manner.
- Chair the Academic Assessment Advisory Committee.
- Provide direction and advice to faculty, academic administrators and others involved in the design, development and evaluation of instructional programs, learning and academic services.
- Assist academic departments in identifying appropriate indicators and evaluation measures for assessing student learning.
- Advise academic departments and faculty on the best practices in collection, analysis, reporting, and use of assessment information to improve teaching effectiveness.
- Plan and deliver timely and appropriate assessment-related training presentations to general faculty meeting(s) to inform faculty of the purpose of the program and share the results of assessment.
- Periodically travel to CAPE sites to guide faculty, administrators, and staff on best practices in the evaluation of instructional programs, learning outcomes, and academic services.
- Prepare assessment result reports for university administrators.
- Extract data and prepare comprehensive, routine, and ad hoc system reports.
- Track outcomes from assessment protocols over a five and ten year cycle.
- Maintains assessment related data and electronic storage folders aligned to the accreditation requirements and standards of various regional and national accrediting bodies such as NCATE, SACS, ATS, NASW, and others.
- Without prompting, readily work outside of, and in addition to, standard office hours, as needed, to ensure critical deadlines are met.
- Effectively interact and collaborate with department team members, other University personnel and external contacts to maintain effective relations and provide professional customer service.
- Maintain liaison with national, regional, state and local organizations promoting educational evaluation and assessment.
