Position Summary:
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State
University (Virginia Tech) invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track position in Arabic to begin August 2013. Teaching load 2-2.
Required Qualifications:
PhD required in Arabic language, literature, culture, linguistics, second-language pedagogy,
or a related field completed by August 10, 2013. As a Research I institution, Virginia Tech strongly values scholarly productivity as well
as excellence in teaching. Ability to teach undergraduate courses in literature or linguistics as well as culture and language from
elementary to advanced. Willingness to develop a program in Arabic, to organize co-curricular activities, and to promote study abroad.
Native or near-native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic, a dialect of Arabic, and English. Must meet eligibility requirements to work in the
US at the time of appointment.
