- Received a Ph.D. degree in chemistry by the appointment date;
- Formal training or demonstrated experience in analytical chemistry;
- Experience with instrumentation and techniques commonly used in modern chemistry laboratories;
- Experience in organizing classroom activities and supervising laboratories;
- Demonstrated skills for teaching undergraduate students, both majors and non-majors;
- Demonstrated ability to direct undergraduate research;
- Demonstrated effective communication skills in both written and oral form;
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse student population.

The biochemistry and chemistry program is housed in The School of Environmental, Physical and Applied Sciences. The program offers an ACS certified BS degree in Chemistry as well as BS degrees in Biochemistry and Forensics Chemistry. The faculty are dedicated to quality undergraduate instruction with a strong emphasis in undergraduate research. A typical teaching load is 9-12 lecture/lab contact hours each semester. The program has experienced substantial growth in recent years and currently has 125 majors. During their training students use a variety of modern instruments and a computer lab equipped with software for computation and modeling studies. Chemistry is well equipped for undergraduate teaching and research, instrumentation includes Fluorescence, UV-Vis, DSC, FTIR, GC/MS, HPLC, AA, and a new 300 MHz Bruker FTNMR. UCM has a diverse student population. The students are admitted to the university based on a moderately selective admissions process. The chemistry students are actively involved in our award winning ACS student affiliate chapter and enter graduate schools, professional schools, and industry upon graduation.
UCM is located in Warrensburg, which has a population of about 17,000. It is ideally situated in the rolling hills of Missouri, just 50 minutes southeast of Kansas City. Only a short drive away are major resort lakes and numerous recreational opportunities. The cost of living is lower here than most parts of the country and housing costs are quite reasonable.
