The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Physics Department is seeking candidates for a full-time,
9-month, tenured/tenure-track position as Executive Director of the High Pressure Science and
Engineering Center and Professor of Physics to commence by July 1, 2010.
PROFILE of the UNIVERSITY
UNLV is a comprehensive research university of approximately 28,000 students and 3,100 faculty and staff dedicated to teaching, research, and service. The university has internationally recognized programs in hotel administration and creative writing; professional degrees in law, architecture, and dental medicine; and leading programs in fine arts, sciences and education. ROLE of the POSITION
The successful candidate will maintain an individual research program while serving as Executive Director of HiPSEC leading all HiPSEC activities. The Executive Director will also have a lead role in preparing proposals for extramural support of HiPSEC, including continuing Cooperative Agreement with the Department of Energy (DOE)/National Security Administration (NNSA) for studies related to NNSA's Stockpile Stewardship Program. Much of this work involves collaboration with scientists and engineers at DOE laboratories and NNSA; experience in these areas is advantageous.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in Physics or related field from an accredited college or university is required. The successful candidate should have broad knowledge and research experience in Materials Sciences and be qualified to hold the rank of Professor at UNLV.
SALARY RANGE
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
