Position Description
An Academic Counselor in the Speed School of Engineering is responsible for advising Engineering students concerning curriculum selection, degree requirements, and University procedures and regulations. The position requires maintenance of detailed records on students' progress within their academic program as well as the collection and assessment of data concerning guidance needs. As a part of assuring student and department success the Academic Counselor will assist students with their flight plan choices as well as maintain degree check sheet and flight plan cohesion. When appropriate the Academic Counselor will make referrals for tutoring, career, and personal concerns. This position will assist in the planning and implementation of orientation, admission and outreach efforts, and Living Learning Community functions for Speed School Students. The Academic Counselor will correspond with various University departments concerning academic matters and serve as a liaison for the Speed School on various committees across campus. The position assists in additional office functions and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling or a related field is preferred with a minimum of 1 year of experience. A combination of education and training and/or internship experience may be substituted for the 1 year of experience. Related experience includes work with students in higher education within academic programs and/or development of student programs that directly foster student persistence.
