Chaired and Distinguished Professors

The Petroleum Institute invites applications for Chaired and Distinguished Professor positions for highly qualified candidates with special expertise in one or more of the research areas listed below. The positions are endowed through designated funds from the Institute, its sponsoring companies and its affiliates including Shell International. Co., British Petroleum Co., ADNOC and its operating company, Japan Oil Development Co.

1. EOR and IOR
* Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and improved oil recovery (IOR) techniques with a particular interest in Carbonate reservoirs
* Reservoir simulation techniques
* CO2 capture and sequestration

2. Petroleum Geology and Geophysics
* Petroleum Geology and Geophysical methods (including rock physics) for detection, description and monitoring of Carbonate fields

3. Drilling Engineering
* Drilling engineering and sciences

4. Materials Science and Engineering
* Material sciences and engineering with particular focus on corrosion and fatigue failures
* Catalytic chemistry
* Materials for high stress environments

5. Separation Science and Engineering
* Separation science and engineering with applications to CO2 and H2S separation from natural gas

6. Energy Sustainability, Power Quality, and Smart Fields
* Automation and controls with applications to Smart field technologies
* Energy audit, energy efficiency, and waste heat recovery techniques
* Fuel cells with applications in power production
* Refining and catalysis

7. Applied Mathematics and Computational Science
* Computational and analytical mathematics with applications in reservoir modeling and other energy-related

8. Teaching with Technology/Instructional Technology

Qualifications: Chaired and Distinguished Professors will have an earned doctorate in closely related discipline with a track record of extraordinary accomplishment in teaching, research/scholarship, and professional service judged by peers to be superior and outstanding. They will have been recognized internationally for the importance of their achievements and are expected to bring distinction to the PI and serve as key contributors to achieving its strategic goal of becoming a World-Class engineering institution.

Responsibilities: Chaired and Distinguished Professors will take a leadership role by developing interdisciplinary setting, engage in outreach and/or research program. As a faculty member within the related Program, the responsibilities of Chaired and Distinguished Professors will include developing and teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses, establishing a strong and sustained research program, and advising students at all levels. He/she will participate in committees and represent the interests of the PI community in national, regional, and international service activities of the discipline.

Salary/Benefits: The total compensation package includes a tax-free 12-month base salary, and a benefits allowance that covers relocation, housing, initial furnishings, utilities, transportation (automobile purchase loan), health insurance, end-of-service benefit and annual leave travel.
