The Opportunity

Zayed University invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Zayed University seeks to prepare students for meaningful and successful 21st century personal and professional lives. University College offers high quality foundational education, the Colloquy on Integrated Learning, to students prior to their entering a major. The Department of Mathematics, housed within University College, has two faculties located in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The Department is primarily responsible for teaching three colloquy math courses for all students in the baccalaureate program, math and statistics courses for majors, and a math minor.

The Responsibilities

The Chair will have primary responsibility for supervising the work of the Department's faculty on both campuses, overseeing the ongoing development of the mathematics curriculum, recruiting new faculty as needs arise, and coordinating Quantitative Reasoning courses in the Colloquy on Integrated Learning, ZU's core curriculum. He or she will also take the lead in partnering with the College of Education on the development of the mathematics courses for those students pursuing certification in mathematics at the elementary, preparatory, and secondary levels, and will serve as part of the broader leadership team in the College. The successful candidate must have a deep commitment to the importance of quantitative capacity for effective global citizenship in the 21st century, including a broad understanding of the role of mathematics as part of the general education requirement of the University

The Requirements

* Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in mathematics, statistics or mathematics education
* Significant academic experience and leadership experience in higher education in mathematics and/or mathematics education.
* A record of excellence in teaching and knowledge of the role of technology in developing best practices in mathematics teaching at the university level both for majors and non-majors. Experience teaching at the secondary level helpful but not required.
* A commitment to general education and the role of mathematics is supporting programs in all Colleges of the University.
* Experience working in standardized curricula with common syllabi and examinations.
* Excellent interpersonal and team-building competencies.
