Associate Director of Library Services for Instruction and Public Services

General Description:
Under the direction of the College's Director of Library Services, the Associate Director of Library Services for Instruction and Public Services will provide reference, research assistance, instruction and other public services to the faculty, students, staff and local users. This support will include promoting the wide range of services offered by CMI Library, developing strong working relationships with faculty, and preparing for changes in the curriculum and teaching methods being used. He/She will also utilize his/her expertise to develop appropriate documentation for the use of CMI Library resources, to teach research skills, to provide group and/or one-on-one research consultation. He/She will create and maintain print and digital tools to assist users in finding and managing information. He/She will supervise library classified staff, manages public services schedules and assist in the development of the Library collection.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provides library reference, research and instruction services to students, faculty, staff and local patrons in person, electronically and by telephone.
* Serves as resource librarian and liaison for students and faculty in academic departments and staff in academic support departments.
* Maintains an active library instruction/information literacy program; designs and teaches classes for students, faculty and staff using a variety of formats and venues.
* Creates student learning outcomes and assess student learning in light of course outcomes.
* Develops innovative approaches to teaching and presentations.
* Cultivates strong liaison relationships with faculty and facilitates communication with the library.
* Assists in assessing and selecting (acquisitions) and deselecting (weeding) print, digital and other library resources.
* Supervises classified library staff in Public Services and Special Collections areas.
* Provides professional support to classified library staff as needed.
* Participates in a variety of library responsibilities such as assessment, budgeting, planning, recruitment, and supervision, evaluation and training of library staff, etc.
* Coordinates the annual or bi-annual library user survey.
* Participates in the Library Team and other College wide committees or teams in an environment of continuous quality improvement.
* Assumes responsibility for the Library and assisting users when the Director of Library Services is not present.
* Engages in regular professional development activities.
* Participates in appropriate campus and faculty activities of the College.
* Creates schedules for public services duties, such as shelving, evening and weekend shift work.
* Works flexible schedule including some evening and weekend.
* Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications:
* ALA-accredited Masters Degree in Library and Information Science.
* Strong background in at least one liberal arts subject.
* Experience or coursework in providing reference, research assistance and library instruction.
* Demonstrated ability to create instructional materials in print and digital/electronic formats.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both spoken and written English.
* Two to five years work experience in an academic or community college library.

Preferred qualifications:
* Energetic and creative, and committed to the mission of the 21st century community college library.
* Project management and/or technology management experience.
* Knowledge of new directions in libraries, new technologies for information communication.
* Strong service orientation and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
* Teaching or training experience.
* Must have in-depth knowledge of reference, research and library instruction procedures.
* Proficient with standard desktop applications, web design and web editing tools, and course management software.
* Leadership ability and excellent initiative, productivity and organizational skills.
* Ability to supervise classified staff.
* Ability to install, use and maintain and troubleshoot hardware, software and peripherals.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision.
* Sensitivity and strong commitment to working with diverse racial and ethnic groups.
* Knowledge and/or experience of creating and assessing student learning outcomes.
* Knowledge and/or experience of creating departmental and personal goals and supervising classified staff to create and fulfill their departmental and personal goals.
* Technical skills and a willingness to develop new competencies are required.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision.
* Leadership ability and excellent initiative, productivity and organizational skills.
* Must have in-depth knowledge of reference, research and library instruction procedures.
* Substantial experience in public services and dealing with the public.

Salary and Benefits:
* Salary range - $20,596 - $29,315 Salary placement is depending upon relevant education, training, and experience.
* Salary is supplemented by up to $9,000 in annual housing allowance.

Benefits:
* Two-year initial contract.
* Transportation from the point of hire to the Marshall Islands.
* Shipping reimbursement of between $2,500 and $4,000, depending on the number of accompanying dependents.
