Tips for Better Searching

Keywords work best when used to filter a job category-based search. When deciding on keywords for your search, look for words that identify a discipline or type of position within your chosen field.

Example: If you are looking for Dean positions overseeing research activities, select the Executive - Deans category and enter research as your keyword.

Example: If you are looking for a faculty position in History with an emphasis in the American Civil War, select the Faculty - Liberal Arts - History category and enter american civil war as your keywords.

Example: If you are looking for a staff position in Information Technology with an emphasis in Linux system administration, select the Admin - Computing - Network/System Administration category and enter linux as your keyword.

You can also use the following special keywords and techniques to make your searches more effective:

OR
Example: French OR Spanish

Using the operator OR between words will return all jobs that contain at least one of the words. In our example, all jobs that contained "french" or "spanish" would be returned.

AND
Example: Security AND Guard

Using the operator AND between words will return jobs containing both words. In our example, only jobs that contain both the word "security" and the word "guard" would be returned.

Quotation Marks
(" ")
Example: "Internet Services"

Using quotation marks around a search phrase will return only jobs containing the entire quoted phrase. In our example, only jobs containing the entire phrase "Internet Services" would be returned.
