Course Description:
This course provides students with the results of a career assessment instrument, the insights regarding how the student's skills and interests align with the career direction for the chosen field of study, and the skills necessary to research and apply for jobs in ones field.
-Interpret the results of a career/skills self-assessment instrument.
-Produce a professional interests and career aptitudes map based on the interpretation on the self-assessment instrument.
-Outline a career and employment search plan, based on ones professional interests and career aptitudes map.
-Demonstrate the ability to use appropriate career research tools and understand ones target job market.
-Interview a professional in ones target career field.
-Compose appropriate materials (e.g., resume, cover letter, email) for job applications in ones target field.
-Perform a professional introduction, either live or on audio/video, suitable for phone and/or web-based job interviews.
Job Description:
Instruct and facilitate meaningful learning of the course competencies in the curriculum and proactively support all facets of the online learning environment. Provide career education through learner-centered instruction that will enable graduates to fulfill the evolving needs of the marketplace. Encourage a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility, diversity and ethics as well as personal and professional development.
-Teach courses as assigned by the Dean of Adjunct Faculty up to the maximum number of contact hours allowed by current accreditation.
-Actively engage in retention activities including documented communication with both students and administration regarding attendance and progress.
-Provide Assistance for the planning, development, and maintenance of program curriculum.
-Work with all departments necessary to resolve student concerns.
-Provide annual documentation of continuing professional growth.
-Attend scheduled program meetings, University in-service workshops and college wide faculty meetings.
-Manage special projects as formally assigned by the Dean of Adjunct Faculty and/or Program Chair.
-Adhere to and publicly support University policies and procedures, included but not limited to the faculty handbook and catalog.
-Attend online graduation ceremony.
-Contribute to decision making, institutional effectiveness, and strategic planning.
Required Skills:
-Strong desire to ensure student success
-Ability to effectively communicate with students to help them achieve their educational goals
-Skills to establish and maintain effective relationships
-Knowledge of Virtual Campus resources and functionality, along with CTU policies
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Extraordinary interpersonal skills, including the ability to motivate and show empathy to students
-Organizational and time management skills
Required Experience:
-MBA, EMBA, MS/MA/M.Ed. in Counseling, College Student Affairs, or a Related Field
-Knowledge of career planning principles, theory, and practice
-Familiarity with career assessments (MBTI, SII) a plus
-Previous college-level teaching experience, and work-place experience strongly preferred
-Strong commitment to the online education mission
-Willingness to work in an accelerated learning format
