POSITION DESCRIPTION
The faculty shall perform her/his duties and responsibilities in collaboration with the Executive Dean of Instruction and Director of the Health Sciences, Education and Wellness Institute. In cooperation with the faculty/program chair, the faculty is responsible for: teaching on-campus, and in clinical settings; assessing student learning outcomes; participating in on-going curriculum development, revision, implementation and evaluation; providing student advising/mentoring; participating in college governance and decision making; maintaining current knowledge and skills in area of assignment; engaging in self reflection and evaluation; building collaborative relationships between the BC and health care communities; and demonstrating a strong commitment to student success and fostering a positive, caring learning environment where diversity and pluralism is valued.
SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Promote teaching and learning with a diverse student body enrolled in nursing courses both on-campus and in clinical settings.
* Utilize a variety of teaching and learning strategies and innovative techniques including: integration of technology to assist students in the achievement of learning outcomes and outcomes assessment.
* Possess cultural competency knowledge and skills or demonstrate a willingness to gain competency.
* Support college initiatives related to pluralism and possess strong commitment to student success and ability to foster a positive and caring learning environment; and build learning communities within the classroom/laboratory setting.
* Assist with planning clinical experiences and finding new clinical sites as necessary.
* Provide timely verbal and written assessments of student performance.
* Maintain effective communication with a diverse faculty, staff and students, and clinical staff.
* Review content of assigned courses and integrate content relevant to the latest research developments, recommendations, and practice in the profession.
* Participate in on-going curriculum development, revision, and program evaluation/assessment.
* Participate in the advising and mentoring of students enrolled in program and to prospective students.
* Contribute to policy and procedural matters of the college through participation on college/institute/program committees and through individual projects to facilitate institutional effectiveness.
* Attend and participate in departmental meetings and serve on various college committees.
* Participate in professional development activities in order to maintain professional qualifications and clinical competency in nursing education.
* Participate in community organizations, events or in related projects and promote collaborative relationships with high schools and four year colleges/universities (develop articulation agreements).
* Perform other pertinent contractual duties and functions that may be assigned by the Institute Director, the Executive Dean of Instruction or the President.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Master's degree in Nursing or current candidate for Masters Completion within one year from date of hire.
* A minimum of five years of recent clinical/community experience in pediatric/OB nursing
* Current Washington State RN license or be eligible for licensure.
* The candidate must also possess a current CPR card and be eligible for Washington State professional-technical vocational certification.
* Hiring is contingent upon the results of the Washington State Patrol Background Check.
SPECIFIC POSITON REQUIREMENTS: Nursing Instructors must have the following abilities:
* The gross and fine motor skills required to assist students with providing safe and effective nursing care
* The physical endurance and ability to work in a clinical setting with students for 6-10 hours
* The physical endurance and strength sufficient to assist students with providing nursing care. For example, moving objects weighing 10-25 lbs or greater
* Ability to assist students with performing skills requiring the use of sight, smell, touch and hearing.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
* Possess medical surgical/clinical education.
* Have prior classroom and clinical teaching experience in a community college setting.
* Effective communication and listening skills, effective team player and leader.
* Commitment to personal and professional development.
* Understand concepts related to teaching and learning theory, curriculum development and assessment of learning outcomes.
* Demonstrated computer literacy.
* Demonstrated awareness of current trends/issues related to the profession, and be active in community and professional organizations.
* Ability to relate to students, staff and faculty of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
* Demonstrated ability to teach in a multi-cultural, multi-ability classroom and advocate for pluralism.
* Demonstrated understanding of concepts related to teaching and learning theory, curriculum development, and assessment of learning outcomes
