The president of Texas A&M University-San Antonio is the chief executive officer and must have significant experience as a leader of a major complex organization, a distinguished record of leadership and intellectual achievement and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, former students and other constituencies. The new president will be expected to lead the transformation of the university to a comprehensive 4-year institution. The new president, working in concert with the A&M System, must demonstrate political acuity and be affective in securing the necessary funding for the expansion of both the educational program and the construction of new facilities indentified in the master plan. With the development of the expanding university, the university president will be expected to make critical decisions regarding new offerings and the requisite new faculty appointments.

New areas of decision-making will require collaboration with existing stakeholders, especially faculty. It is expected that the president will engage the faculty as meaningful participants in the development of new educational strategies.

The A&M System and the university community place highest priority on securing an individual who is a proven and effective leader. The ideal candidate should possess the traditional academic credentials of an earned doctorate and successful experience in leading an institution of higher education. The System and the university recognizes that a successful president might emerge from other complex institutions such as business, government, public education or the military.

Consideration will be given to nontraditional candidates whose track record in leading complex organizations match the leadership expectations of The A&M System and the university.

-The talent, energy and enthusiasm to instill a sense of pride and commitment to the university from current and future stakeholders
-The inaugural president must be dedicated to the development and dissemination of knowledge in diverse academic and professional fields and the ability to expand the university's role to meet the changing needs of Texas, the nation and the world while keeping its commitment to preeminence in teaching, research and service.
