Media Communications Specialist

Function
To provide media communications support, with an emphasis on scientific writing
and journalism, to support the research mission of the Institute for Genomic Biology.
Organizational Relationship
Reports to the Director of Communications at the IGB. Works closely with other IGB staff
members, administrators, and faculty researchers.
Primary Responsibility
WRITING:
Possesses high proficiency in written communications to research, create, and edit content for print and online publication. This includes
articles on scientific research and researchers, coverage of events, seminars, and symposia, interviews with faculty, affiliates, and
students of all levels, proofing of grant proposals, creating press releases on awards, grants, and developments, and related
responsibilities. Edits and proofs work as necessary. Works with Communications staff to advance projects promoting the research of the
IGB.
Knowledge required for the job
Position requires a bachelor's degree with at
least three years of experience in scientific writing and/or journalism. Preferred experience in interacting with faculty to produce
articles accessible to a wide audience. Must possess excellent verbal communications skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
Attention to detail is essential. Candidates also must be deadline-driven, as day-to-day work requires the ability to organize and
coordinate multiple projects.
This is a 12-month, 100% time academic professional appointment with regular university
benefits. The proposed starting date is negotiable after the close date. Salary will be commensurate with training and experience. Please
