The Center for Atmospheric Science (CAS) pursues a program of basic and applied research, monitoring, services, and outreach to address key atmospheric issues of importance to Illinois, the Midwest, and the nation. Among the key service programs are the Midwestern Regional Climate Center and the Illinois State Climatologist. Areas of research include climate variability and change, how hazardous weather events respond to climate variations, the impacts of weather and climate events, air quality, cloud physics, storm-scale (mesoscale) meteorology, and near-surface (boundary layer) weather.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to help fulfill the mission of the Center for Atmospheric Sciences. The Center for Atmospheric Science (CAS) pursues a program of basic and applied research, monitoring, services, and outreach to address key atmospheric issues of importance to Illinois, the Midwest, and the nation.

This position is aimed to improve the capabilities of existing atmospheric dispersion models to stimulate local and regional pollen and seed dispersion, deposition, and outcrossing. Models will be converted to an online tool so stakeholders can easily access and use.

Duties and Responsibilities: Measure and model plants atmospheric gene flow, including pollen and seed release, dispersion, deposition and outcrossing. Analyze measured data and model results, and prepare written material for project reports, publications, and proposals.

Required Education and Experience: PhD in Atmospheric Sciences or related field. Experience in writing and/or publishing of manuscripts, dispersion modeling, and programming. Prospective candidates need to have a strong background in atmospheric dispersion modeling, as well as extensive IT and programming skills.

Proposed start date: open until a suitable candidate is hired. Salary: is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
