Senior Assistant Director of Housing for Dining Services

Applications are now being accepted for the position of Senior Assistant Director of Housing for Dining Services at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Senior Assistant Director provides support to the Associate Director of Housing for Dining Services by being responsible for the operation of the undergraduate residence halls dining program. The Senior Assistant Director of Housing for Dining Services will be responsible for an operating budget of approximately $40M.

We are seeking individuals with diverse backgrounds who can help create and foster communities that strive toward this vision. This includes supporting the academic mission of the University by developing environments conducive to student learning and academic success, respecting, appreciating, and advocating for the diversity of our student population, and supporting the holistic development of all of our students. The diversity of our campus student population currently includes 19 percent international students, 12 percent Asian American students, 5 percent African American students, and 6 percent Hispanic/Latino students from a total enrollment over 42,000 students.

Minimum requirements for this position include a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Hospitality Management, Economics, Human Resource, Business Administration for related field , five years of successful supervisory and managerial experience in a progressive, successful large ($8M+ operating budget) multi-unit Dining operation, strong budget development and fiscal management skills, strong leadership, management administrative and communication skills, and a demonstrated understanding of customer service to a higher education customer base. Demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining high-level service and production standards and the ability to instill this commitment in the team; and a current State of Illinois Food Service Sanitation or Serv Safe/HACCP certificate.

Preferred skills include experience with developing and managing board plans, ability to coach, mentor and assess performance, the ability to take corrective action, resolve issues in a proactive manner, and take disciplinary action if necessary. Additionally preferred is a working knowledge of University business procedures, staff policy and rules, including Civil Service Statutes and Rules, experience managing in a bargaining unit environment, and familiarity of procurement and bidding processes in an institutional setting.

This is a full-time, 12-month position. The starting date will be as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package.
