ROLE of the POSITION
Candidate for this position will report to the Director of Advising in the UNLV College of Sciences. Candidate will be responsible for disseminating information for 12 degree programs and related issues to 2500 students with majors in biology, chemistry, geoscience, mathematics and physics/astronomy. Position requires working with students on complicated issues regarding their degree progress and/or life issues, as well as participating in college and university outreach activities. Refers students to university resources as required. Requires excellent English interpersonal communication and computer skills. Ability to easily learn additional computer or other technology skills as required. Conscientious attention to detail is a must. Candidates for the Advisor 2 position must have experience acting as a team leader with other advisors and work closely with a Director.
An Academic Advisor position requires a Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university and one year advising or related experience. A Senior Academic Advisor requires a Master's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university and at least one (1) year of related professional work experience OR a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and three (3) years of related professional work experience. Experience in the sciences desirable, but not required..
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
