This position is no longer an active posting on HigherEdJobsIndiana University Kokomo seeks qualified candidates for the position of Director of Physical Facilities. Reporting to the Chancellor, the Director is responsible for the overall management and direction of the buildings and infrastructure of the campus, which enrolls approximately 3700 students and encompasses a building area of 550,000 sq. feet. In addition, the incumbent develops and implements policies and procedures, supervises staff, has budgetary responsibility for the department, manages physical plant and utilities accounts, and prepares project specifications. The Director serves as the campus Incident Commander, providing leadership during campus emergencies. He/she is responsible for environmental health and safety management including assisting IU Risk Management and IU EH&S with compliance with state and federal regulations. This includes the timely follow-up on all inspections, the establishment of environmental code/compliance practices and procedures to avoid violations, and the filing of appropriate paperwork with IU EH&S, IDEM and US EPA as necessary. The Director also oversees Parking Operations and all custodial work on campus.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to directing the activities of the IU Kokomo Physical Plant department including developing, planning and implementing policies and procedures governing preventive maintenance, operations, engineering services, energy management and disaster preparedness programs for all campus buildings, and ensuring compliance with all regulations; supervising the work activities of multiple physical plant shifts (i.e. custodial, maintenance, and grounds), and parking personnel; coordinating major schedules, job assignments, and allocation of manpower and equipment to ensure conformance with specified objectives and policies; developing, implementing and updating policies and procedures for preventive maintenance operations, engineering services, custodial work, energy management and disaster preparedness programs; preparing and managing budgets for maintenance operations, supplies, replacement equipment, repair parts and contracts; monitoring project utility usage; providing project management and serving as liaison to architects, engineers and contractors on construction projects.
Qualified candidates must have an earned Bachelor's degree; a Master's degree is preferred. In addition, a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in physical plant supervision, leadership and/or project management is required. Experience in a higher education environment is preferred. Knowledge of budgeting, trades, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, basic custodial procedures, and building construction is required as is knowledge of ADA standards, OSHA & EPA regulations, safety measures and building codes.
