North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, one of 16 constituent universities in the University of North Carolina System, invites nominations and applications for the position of Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The University is a Land-Grant Doctoral Research institution fulfilling its fundamental purposes through exemplary undergraduate and graduate instruction, scholarly and creative research, and effective public service. The University offers degree programs at the baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral levels. The University has also established the Gateway University Research Park, a Research-Industrial Park, in collaboration with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to foster technology transfer and promote economic development in the region. The University enrolls approximately 10,800 students and has approximately 1,800 faculty and staff.

Through the years, North Carolina A&T has adapted its curriculum to strengthen science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Riding the crest of the technological revolution, the University has moved rapidly to blend its academic and research programs with the needs of society and industry. North Carolina A&T also has advanced to the forefront in research with its current ranking as a doctoral/research university by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, ranking third in the UNC system in sponsored research funding for six consecutive years (2004-2010), and receiving a multimillion-dollar National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center grant.

The candidate selected as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs will work closely with the Chancellor, Board of Trustees, the Cabinet, Deans, faculty, staff, students, alumni and other constituents to shape an exciting future for North Carolina A&T State University.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serving as the senior academic leader of the University, the Provost reports to the Chancellor and serves as a key member of the Chancellor's cabinet. The Provost is responsible for providing leadership and direction for all academic programs and works closely with internal and external constituents to promote academic quality and achievement of strategic outcomes. Reporting to the Provost are the Deans of the Colleges of Engineering and Arts and Sciences, the Schools of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Business and Economics, Technology, Nursing, Education, Graduate Studies, and the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering. Additional reports include the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development, the Vice Chancellor for Information Technology, the Dean of Library Services, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Undergraduate Programs, Vice Provost for Research, Graduate Programs and Extended Learning, Vice Provost for Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness, and the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management.
The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate with a record of effective teaching, scholarly productivity, and service that provide support for an appointment at the senior faculty level. The candidate must also present evidence of progressive accomplishments and a proven record of leadership, teambuilding, management, budget planning and control, and resource development. The selected candidate will have a comprehensive strategic vision, a demonstrated commitment to excellence, and ability to utilize innovative methods for implementing strategic plans. He or she must be an engaging professional who is courageous, has a discernible history of probity, and an expressed commitment to value-based decision making.
Greensboro, with a population of about 220,000, is a thriving, civic-minded city with its own Symphony Orchestra, Community Theater, Opera Company, Civic Ballet, and many outstanding public and private recreation areas and facilities. Greensboro is situated in the Piedmont Triad, an area of great natural beauty, diverse industry, cultural arts, and mild temperatures. North Carolina's mountain resorts are an easy two-hour drive from Greensboro and the beaches of North and South Carolina are three to four hours away.
