Human Resources (HR) Consultant (2 Positions Available)

The University of Notre Dame ( www.nd.edu) is accepting applications for two HR Consultants within the Office of Human Resources ( http://hr.nd.edu/) to provide guidance and support to University leadership and employees of designated divisions or colleges on strategic initiatives impacting their organization and people, and identify HR issues that will help achieve business goals and objectives (strategic planning). They inform and work with colleagues in HR's Centers of Expertise (COE) about these issues so that appropriate solutions can be designed.


Specific responsibilities include the following:
  • By working closely in a partnership with President's Leadership Council (PLC), deans and other senior leaders of the university, identifies HR issues that will help achieve business goals and objectives (strategic planning). Informs and works with colleagues in HR's Centers of Expertise about these issues so that appropriate solutions can be designed.
  • Employee Relations: Advise, counsel, interpret and administer policies with managers and employees on all types of ER issues with an understanding and use of coaching/counseling techniques, facilitation/mediation, corrective action, performance improvement planning, and employment laws such as employment discrimination, sexual harassment, FMLA, FLSA, ADA, etc. Makes decisions about discipline including performance improvement plans, corrective action, suspensions and terminations (coordinate with Office of General Counsel).
  • Performance Management: Advise, counsel managers and employees on completion of, participation in Performance Management process.
  • Organizational Design: Assist client groups in restructuring of organization to fit needs, including recommending options, timelines, communications, employee meetings, collaborating with Compensation group on salary/PD issues.
  • Collaborating with COE's on Solution Design: Participate with Compensation group in review processes to assist client groups in creation and revision of positions; partner with Talent Management on training and information sessions, retreats, etc. for dissemination of policy information and building teamwork within client groups; interface with Recruiters on openings, providing insight into needs, guidance to managers on use of recruiting process, on interview committees, etc.; assists HR's Centers of Expertise in the design, communication, implementation and administration of campus-wide HR programs and initiatives (NDVoice).
  • Investigations: Lead the discovery and gathering of information pertinent to assigned investigations. Examples include employment discrimination, sexual harassment, etc. Will make determination of investigation and appropriate corrective action to be taken (when appropriate).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in HR Management, Educational Administration, Communications, Psychology, Business. Must have at least 3 - 4 years of experience.

Strong interpersonal skills; ability to establish credibility with individuals at all levels of organization; excellent oral/written communication skills; knowledge of current employment laws; complex problem-solving; technical and theoretical knowledge of multiple HR disciplines (organizational design, employee relations, benefits, compensation, employment, professional development); strong customer service orientation; multi-task; excellent skills in use of technology tools to diagnose, examine, analyze and communicate on issues in client groups.
