Job Description: The School of Dental Medicine (SoDM) is the newest professional school within the division of Health
Sciences at East Carolina University. The mission of the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine is to:
Prepare leaders with outstanding clinical skills, an ethical bearing, sound judgment, and a passion to serve.
Provide educational opportunities for individuals from historically underrepresented groups, disadvantaged backgrounds, and underserved areas.
Provide and enhance oral health services for underserved North Carolinians through implementation of community-oriented service learning and interprofessional collaborations.
Foster an environment where creativity, collaboration, and diversity are embraced.
Guide future clinical practice and dental education through innovation and discovery.
The School of Dental Medicine is composed of five administrative offices and three academic divisions. The Administrative units include the Office of the Dean, Associate Dean for Planning and Extramural Affairs, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, and Assistant Dean for Educational Support and Faculty Development. The three academic divisions are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, and General Dentistry.
The Director of Faculty Development and Continuing Education in the Office of Educational Support and Faculty Development provides leadership and management of a variety of services to meet faculty development and continuing education needs in order to extend the benefits of the educational, research, and service activities that support the SoDM mission. The position involves significant and independent interaction with the SoDM Assistant Dean for Educational Support and Faculty Development to strategically plan a comprehensive faculty development and continuing education program including developing policies and procedures and obtaining and managing fiscal and other resources that support the program. The position involves interaction with the Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, the Division Chairs, and other members of the SoDM administration and faculty to identify and address individual and collective professional development interests and needs. The Director of Faculty Development and Continuing Education also works closely with other agencies, including but not limited to the Eastern Area Health Education Coalition (EAHEC), the ECU Office of Faculty Excellence, and the Brody School of Medicine Offices of Faculty Development and Continuing Medical Education, to identify and address continuing education interests and needs among non-SoDM faculty and practicing dentists and other health care professionals throughout the region and the state. The Director of Faculty Development and Continuing Education also initiates and participates in collaborative grant seeking, publication, and research and scholarship related to the development and training of faculty and health care professionals in order to promote the unique SoDM program and to contribute toward the advancement of dental education and related fields.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an appropriately accredited institution.
- Broad knowledge of issues related to professional training and development.
- Three years of experience in professional training and development working with the initiation, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of a training and development program.
- Master's Degree from an appropriately accredited institution in education, public health, or related field.
- Five years of experience in health professional training and development.
- Demonstrated knowledge of working with administration, state licensing boards, and accrediting agencies to ensure that programing supports minimum licensure and accreditation requirements.
