This position is no longer an active posting on HigherEdJobsJob Description: The Division of Health Sciences is the largest and most complex division within the University, employing more than 700 EPA employees and 1,700 SPA employees. The Division is composed of numerous Centers, Institutes, and agencies such as the East Carolina Heart Institute and Eastern Area Health Education Center, the Colleges of Allied Health Sciences and Nursing, the Brody School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine, and the Laupus Health Sciences Library. In addition to the academic and administrative responsibilities of the division, the four professional schools provide clinical services throughout eastern North Carolina in a variety of settings and venues.
The School of Dental Medicine is composed of five administrative offices and three academic divisions. The Administrative units include the Office of the Dean, Associate Dean for Planning and Extramural Affairs, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Academic Support and Faculty Development and the Office of Business and Financial Affairs. The three academic divisions are Surgical Sciences, Orthodontics/Pediatric Dentistry and General Dentistry.
Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the underserved population of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational experiences for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service Learning Centers located throughout North Carolina. In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed.
This position supports the clinical activities of the Advanced Care Clinic. This clinic houses the emergency clinic and is the primary surgical are in the school. While many different dental procedures may be performed, the majority of procedures will be surgical in nature: oral surgery including extractions of erupted and impacted teeth, periodontal surgery, implant surgery, the use of a microscope of complex endodontic procedures, and intravenous conscious sedation. This position will ensure patient safety by monitoring pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative sedation and non-sedation patients, and will ensure the clinic is adequately supplied with emergency medical equipment, supplies and emergency and routine medications. This position will manage and track sedation and controlled substances. This position will also be responsible for assisting in the proper documentation of care and for providing information for quality assurance audits and other reports and in the maintenance and tracking of surgical instruments and equipment. At times, this position may be required to assist clinicians, provide ancillary support during procedures, work with clinicians in a proactive fashion to ensure complete preparation for scheduled procedures, and other tasks necessary to ensure safe and productive clinic operations.
Preferred education and experience:
Four year nursing degree from an accredited program. Minimum four years experience in hospital operating room, ambulatory care surgical center, or private practice that routinely provides intravenous conscious sedation. Experience starting IVs and providing pre-operative, intra-operative and, post anesthesia care and patient education. Intermediate computer skills.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program. Experience managing a multi-practitioner surgical suite. Fluency in Spanish. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Minimum Qualifications: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.

This position is subject to the Career Banding Salary Administration Plan. If candidates are not identified at the Journey level, management may consider candidates at a lower competency level. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations.
