This position is no longer an active posting on HigherEdJobsJob Description: The Division of Health Sciences is the largest and most complex division within the University, employing more than 700 EPA employees and 1,700 SPA employees. The Division is composed of numerous Centers, Institutes, and agencies such as the East Carolina Heart Institute and Eastern Area Health Education Center, the Colleges of Allied Health Sciences and Nursing, the Brody School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine, and the Laupus Health Sciences Library. In addition to the academic and administrative responsibilities of the division, the four professional schools provide clinical services throughout eastern North Carolina in a variety of settings and venues.
The School of Dental Medicine is composed of five administrative offices and three academic divisions. The Administrative units include the Office of the Dean, Associate Dean for Planning and Extramural Affairs, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Academic Support and Faculty Development and the Office of Business and Financial Affairs. The three academic divisions are Surgical Sciences, Orthodontics/Pediatric Dentistry and General Dentistry.
Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the underserved population of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational experiences for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service Learning Centers located throughout North Carolina. In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed.
This position provides comprehensive laboratory support for the clinics of the ECU School of Dental Medicine including fixed and removable prosthodontics, implant-supported prosthodontics, orthodontics, and TMD therapy. In addition, this position supervises one and possibly additional dental laboratory technicians to include hiring and periodic evaluations. This position is also responsible for providing in-lab and preclinical lab instruction and guidance to students, residents, and faculty and for tracking lab cases that may be sent to outside laboratories for completion. Quality-control monitoring of both internal and external lab cases is an important part of this position to minimize the number of remakes. Maintaining par level inventory of the various Ross Hall clinical labs is part of the position responsibilities.Preferred education and experience:
Preference will be given to individuals who have the following qualifications:
Minimum 5 years experience working in a full-service dental lab with documentable experience in the fabrication of fixed, removable, and implant-supported restorations. Certification as a Certified Dental Technician by the National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology. Intermediate computer skills. Knowledge of CDC and OSHA infection control practices for dental laboratories. Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Graduation from an accredited program in dental laboratory technology.
- Experience as outlined above and CAD-CAM experience, preferably E4D.
- Experience with characterization of all-ceramic and ceramo-metal restorations.
- Supervisory experience.
- Working knowledge of MS Excel, construction of basic spreadsheets, and MS Power Point or Apple Keynote.

This position is subject to the Career Banding Salary Administration Plan. If candidates are not identified at the Advanced level, management may consider candidates at a lower competency level. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations.
Salary Grade Equivalent: 72 (for reduction-in-force priority purposes only)
