We seek a dynamic, high-energy, transformative leader for the College of Education in Nevada's oldest institution of higher education and the state's land-grant leader in teaching, research and statewide outreach. With 1,000 undergraduate majors, 800 graduate students, 39 tenure-line faculty, 6 other academic faculty, 28 administrative faculty, and 63 staff members, the college's programs encompass a broad range educational subjects and levels.
Candidates for the position of Dean must hold a terminal degree from an accredited institution and be eligible for tenure as a full professor in one of the disciplines represented within the college. We require a senior scholar with a solid foundation in teacher education or in one of the disciplines represented within the college, a distinguished record of research or scholarly activity, and at least three years of administrative experience at the level of chair or above in higher education. Experience with accreditation of educational programs and knowledge of national P-20 educational policy issues, both urban and rural, are also required. Desired qualifications include experience working with policy makers on educational issues, a demonstrated commitment to faculty, student, and program diversity, interest in development and fund raising on behalf of the college and its programs, and experience working with STEM initiatives and professional development schools.
The anticipated start date for the position is July 1, 2013. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until February 28, 2013.
