Job Description: The Division of Health Sciences is the largest and most complex division within the University, employing more than 700 EPA employees and 1,700 SPA employees. The Division is composed of numerous Centers, Institutes, and agencies such as the East Carolina Heart Institute and Eastern Area Health Education Center, the Colleges of Allied Health Sciences and Nursing, the Brody School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine, and the Laupus Health Sciences Library. In addition to the academic and administrative responsibilities of the division, the four professional schools provide clinical services throughout eastern North Carolina in a variety of settings and venues.

The School of Dental Medicine is composed of five administrative offices and three academic divisions. The administrative units include the Office of the Dean, Associate Dean for Planning and Extramural Affairs, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Academic Support and Faculty Development, and the Office of Business and Financial Affairs. The three academic divisions are Surgical Sciences, Orthodontics/Pediatric Dentistry, and General Dentistry.

Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the underserved population of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational experiences for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service Learning Centers located throughout North Carolina. In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed.

This position serves as a staff person in the Central Sterilization Suite with responsibilities for instrument handling and tracking, disinfection, cleaning, and sterilization, and circulation of instruments throughout the Ross Hall clinical facilities as well as proper cleaning/disinfection/maintenance of all equipment utilized in the Central Sterilization Suite. These functions require 100% of the employees' time and effort. This position is located in Ross Hall, the primary clinical facility of the ECU School of Dental Medicine.

Preferred education and experience: One or more years experience in a large medical practice/ hospital central sterilization area or experience as a dental assistant with sterilization responsibilities. CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician), CBSPD (Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution) Certification or equivalent. Knowledge of CDC Infection Control Principles and OSHA requirements in the dental office.

Minimum Qualifications: Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licensure.

This position is subject to the Career Banding Salary Administration Plan. If candidates are not identified at the Journey level, management may consider candidates at a lower competency level. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations.

Salary Grade Equivalent: 65 (for reduction-in-force priority purposes only)
