Residence Hall Director
University Housing, University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign
Applications are now being accepted for the Residence Hall Director position for University Housing at
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
We, the staff of the Department of Residential Life, have a vision for our
work, "Learning, Growing, Mattering: for every person, on every floor, in every community."
We are seeking individuals with
diverse backgrounds who can help create and foster communities that strive toward this vision. This includes supporting the academic mission
of the university by developing environments conducive to student learning and academic success, respecting, appreciating, and advocating
for the diversity of our student population, and supporting the holistic development of all of our students. The diversity of our campus
student population currently includes 42,605 total students: 31,932 undergraduate and 10,673 graduate and professional students, 54% men,
46% women, 5% African-American, 6% Latino/a, 11% Asian-American, .13% Native American, 2% Multiracial and 19% International.
University Housing has 10,500 students living in our facilities. Our undergraduate residence hall communities typically house 450-650
students each. Our 17 full-time, professional Residence Hall Directors each supervise 8 to 12 Resident Advisors, student support staff, and
collaborate with 1-2 Multicultural Advocates to lead them in the fulfillment of our vision. They advise and mentor student leaders to make a
difference in the lives of their peers. RDs work collaboratively both within the Department of Residential Life/University Housing and on
campus with talented Student Affairs and Academic Affairs staff to provide innovative services, programs, and leadership to the campus
community. Residence Hall Directors are at the heart of what we do for and with students.
Minimum
Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and experience in a Residential Life or campus housing environment, student affairs
involvement and/or leadership experiences or work in a related field (higher education, student affairs, counseling, social work, etc.) or a
Master's degree and part-time work experience in a closely related field is required (graduate assistantships are considered part-time
work).
Preferred Qualifications include a Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education,
and Counseling or a related field and current work in residential life or student affairs is strongly preferred along with a working
knowledge of student learning and student development, supervisory skills, successful community building strategies, conflict mediation
skills, interpersonal skills, experience with conference operations, sound decision-making and evaluative skills, is open to constructive
feedback and is able to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and students and has experience working
successfully with diverse college student populations.
Security Requirements
Additionally, this position is a security sensitive position. A background check is required for those offered the position.
Contract and Salary for this full-time, live-in, twelve-month regular Academic Professional appointment beginning as
soon as possible as we have two confirmed vacancies and for additional anticipated vacancies for the 2013-2014 academic year beginning July
8, 2013. Starting salary is commensurate with experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
