The University of St. Francis, a Catholic, Franciscan institution in Joliet, Illinois, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Mathematics to begin August 2013. This is a tenure-track position with a 24-credit-hour teaching load per academic year.
USF offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs serving traditional-aged and adult students through a variety of learning formats. Small class sizes and a student-centered philosophy characterize the USF experience. The university is located in a residential Joliet neighborhood 35 miles southwest of Chicago with satellite campuses in downtown Joliet and Albuquerque, NM. The Department of Mathematics offers four undergraduate degree programs: Mathematics (B.A.), Mathematics with Secondary Certification, Mathematics with a concentration in Actuarial Science, and Mathematics and Computer Science.
This position requires: the ability to teach undergraduate courses in mathematics and statistics for majors and non-majors; willingness to explore and develop innovative directions in mathematics and/or collaborative interdisciplinary courses; participation in scholarly and professional growth activities such as scholarly writing, conference presentations, student and faculty research projects, and grant proposals; and advising mathematics majors and providing service to the department, college, and university.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in classroom and office settings with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
1. Ph.D. or D.A. in Mathematics or Mathematical Sciences, earned by August 2013
2. Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position
3. Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the university
1. University or college teaching experience in mathematics
2. Mathematical research involving undergraduate students
3. Technological proficiency in the discipline
