ROLE of the POSITION
The College of Fine Arts has an immediate opening for a full-time, 12- month Academic Advisor. Through a variety of forums, including group and individual advising sessions, the Academic Advisor works with prospective, incoming and continuing students in understanding the degree requirements for the various majors within the College of Fine Arts. The Advisor assists students with course selection, semester planning and the myriad of issues that may transpire from admission to graduation. When necessary, (s) he refers students to the appropriate university resources (counseling, career services, tutoring, etc). It is the responsibility of the advisor to maintain accurate files; have a clear understanding of all university and college academic policies; and work on a daily basis with other entities across campus.
Academic Advisors participate in both on-campus and off-campus retention and recruitment activities. Occasional evenings and weekends are required.
Qualifications include the following: a Bachelor's degree (Master's Preferred) from a regionally accredited university or college and a minimum of one- year full-time (or equivalent) related professional experience; experience with computerized student information systems and their application to advising (preferred knowledge of PeopleSoft). The ideal candidate must be personable, articulate, and able to interpret policies and procedures. (S)he will be able to work in a fast-paced environment of constant change and variety (flexibility is a must). Good organizational skills are also a necessity. A strong background in verbal and written communications is a requirement, as are strong skills in effective decision making and problem-solving.
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
