RESEARCHER II: The Department of Plant Biology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications for a grant-funded 12-month position in plant food safety technician, renewable with availability of funding.

Duties: 1) Greenhouse and growth chamber experiments with crop and vegetable plants exposed to contaminants and hazardous chemicals, including specific measurements of plant physiological status and biochemical stress; 2) Laboratory analysis of plant tissue, soil, and solution samples for hazardous chemicals that may impact human health; 3) Experimentation with and handling/disposal of toxic chemicals; 4) Communicating and organizing annual reports, meetings, and manuscripts of the research team; 5) Overseeing undergraduate and graduate student workers; 6) Maintain laboratory supplies and records.

Qualifications: A Master of Science degree in plant biology or plant sciences, experience with plant propagation in greenhouses and in sterile culture, demonstrated experience assessing the impact of environmental pollutants on plants and measuring plant physiological status and biochemical stress.

Effective Date of Employment: Position begins February 11, 2013.
