This position is no longer an active posting on HigherEdJobsJob Description: The Department of Political Science at East Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 12, 2013. We are seeking candidates in the field of Security Studies with a focus on International Security and Intelligence. Strong preference will be given to candidates who can teach classes in intelligence and / or homeland security. The successful candidate is expected to teach primarily at the graduate level, but with some undergraduate class teaching as well. Strong preference will also be given to candidates that have taught both face-to-face and distance education courses.
A PhD is required to have been completed before the start date of the position. Candidates must demonstrate potential for scholarly research productivity, excellent teaching, and service to the university, community, and profession. Salary is competitive, with the possibility of summer teaching.
The Department offers BS and BA degrees in Political Science and a Minor in Security Studies at the undergraduate level. At the graduate level, it offers a NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration degree, a Master of Science in Security Studies and a Certificate in Security Studies. The Department is also a major contributor to the interdisciplinary graduate program in International Studies. The twenty-person department emphasizes excellent teaching, quality research, and a tradition of service to the community, the university, and the discipline. ECU is located in the coastal region of North Carolina in Greenville, a rapidly growing city of more than 84,000 persons in Pitt County (population 168,148); it serves a large rural area. Minimum Qualifications: A PhD from an appropriately accredited institution is required.
