The Center for Research and Reform in Education (CRRE) with the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University, invites applications for the position of Research Scientist. The primary purpose of the position is to provide expertise in the design, execution, and reporting of rigorous educational research studies and third-party evaluations. A major activity will entail developing proposals and plans of work for federal and foundation grants, and evaluation contracts with program developers, schools, school districts, and state agencies. A second major responsibility will be communicating with funders, federal monitors, key stakeholders, and school district personnel regarding evaluation design, data needs, analyses, and project timelines. A third key role will be disseminating results in domains such as journal publications , policy briefings, research forums, webinars, , and school or foundation board meetings. The Research Scientist will work with individual project managers and the CRRE Director to provide quality control over the studies, and directly supervise staff on selected projects. The candidate may wish to be involved in such activities as faculty committees, mentoring graduate students, part-time teaching of graduate courses, and faculty development on educational evaluation and research topics.
Requirements include a Ph.D. degree in education, psychology, or social sciences, with at least three years of experience in educational evaluation/research, and strong quantitative, qualitative, and writing skill. Prior experience as a researcher or practitioner in preK-12 educational settings is strongly desired. The preferred candidate will bring expertise in evaluation and research design and methodology; a high degree of familiarity with K-12 education policies and conditions; exceptional communication, organizational, and management skills; experience with qualitative and quantitative analyses and reporting and strong analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize and interpret data.
