This position is no longer an active posting on HigherEdJobsJob Description: The department is a US military unit assigned to a University environment. As such, this department must meet the stringent and unique requirements of both the military and those of the university. The position is expected to be acknowledgeable about the Military Science program and the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). The primary purpose of this position is to execute the administrative and secretarial support to Military Science Department Chair/Professor of Military Science (PMS) as well as perform general administrative duties for additional cadre members and limited administrative functions in support of cadets. Conducting university specific functions such as preparing correspondence for the PMS's signature, ensuring campus communications run smoothly, executing university purchasing requests as directed by the PMS, and keeping the PMS informed of applicable university policies and changes are also some of the position duties. This is a demanding position which goes beyond knowledge of the University because of the contractual documents associated with the United States Army and the federal government. The position must be knowledgeable about the university and the Army ROTC program - the regulations and procedures used by both. This individual is trusted to operate with minimal supervision; however, outside auditors and government inspectors are brought in periodically by the Army to review, document and access all documents and actions initiated or processed by the unit. As secretary to the department chair, the position is responsible for scheduling his appointments, processing all correspondence, reports, various Army and DoD forms/documents, facilities and work orders, scheduling of classes for the department and setting up the appropriate office tools for newly assigned cadre; i.e. email accounts, instructor numbers, phone support. etc. The position is responsible for managing the office budget (state funds). The ideal candidate should be proficient in Banner and PORT to include the Student Payroll System for any assigned student workers. Knowledge of University policies and procedures is preferred since this position is the direct link between the University and the military cadre.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Special Instructions to Applicants: This position is subject to the Career Banding Salary Administration Plan. If candidates are not identified at the Journey level, management may consider candidates at a lower competency level. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations.
Salary Grade Equivalent: 59 (for reduction-in-force priority purposes only)
